1A – Jailbreaking

1A1 – Jailbreaking 1.1.1

Jailbreak for Mac:
Automatic Jailbreak (by AriX), use iJailbreak to unlock the iPod Touch, follow the instructions given.
Download: http://code.google.com/p/ijailbreak/

Jailbreak for Windows:
Automatic Jailbreak, Touchfree (by….not me)
Download: http://www.slovix.com/touchfree/

process written by: videoouija [me] Fixed up by…Zombie_Killer

If you dont not have the newest .Net Framework for Windows… you will be asked to install it. (Its all safe, its a Microsoft install)

When installed Touchfree, now on the iPod, you will ned to go to jailbreak.toc2rta.com. Safari will run… then just crash, it is normal.

Now, run the TouchFree GUI, and you will get a window saying start jailbreak. Once started, just leave it running for a while. It will asks you to Restart you Touch a couple of times (Hold Sleep button for 5 Seconds, then slide the red slider)

After you are dont with the GUI, you are completely jailbroken, congrats!

1A2 – 1.1.2 Jailbreak

Jailbreak for Windows and Mac*

First off, you will need to start off at Jailbroken 1.1.1. Check the other Guide on how to do that.

Then, in Installer, download OctoPrep from Tweak 1.1.1.

Then you wil update to 1.1.2 using iTunes. This will get rid of all your apps, so back them up something.

Once at 1.1.2, download this File

FIRST!!! MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE UNLOCK TO NEVER! ITUNES IS CLOSED! AND THAT YOU END ANY IPOD, ITUNES, OR APPLE PROCESSES|

Once you get everything safe and stuff, open the file you just download, and then either run Windows.bat file if your on Windows, or run the osx.bat file if your on a mac.

Right now for mac it doesnt work, unless you use the Mac Fix, which is in this Ultimate Guide.

Just follow the on screen instructions and you should be fine.

*If you want to jailbreak your iPod, and you are running OSX on a Mac, you will need to use the calender fix…Below.

Mac fix for 1.1.2 Jailbreak

“Ok, looks like I got it to work. Unfortunately, simply clicking the “osx” executable is not going to work. If you’re not in Terminal, and not in the right Current Working Directory (CWD), that file is not going to find the JAR file it needs. What yall need to do this:

Download and extract the file to your Desktop. It should extract to something called “1”.

Now, open Terminal, at the prompt, type:

Quote:
cd ~/Desktop/1

This will put you in the “1” folder, and allow “osx” to see the JAR file (hint: If you type: pwd, you should see the path to the “1” folder).

Now, execute “osx” by typing:

Quote:
./osx

There you go that will work.

UPDATE*
If you’re getting strange Errors (such as “Cannot connect to device”) trying to do the 1.1.2 Jailbreak then try downloading this file: http://rapidshare.com/files/61509655/opt.zip.html and then just drag the opt folder into the root directory of your computers hard drive.
Also make sure that the “1” folder is on your Desktop, Then open Terminal and follow the above steps.

This is not my guide….Zombie_Killer

1B – Restoring/Downgrading

Restore to 1.1.1 (Needed for 1.1.2 Jailbreak!)

Download this File

Then open iTunes and plug you iPod in to your computer.

For Windows (Sorry Mac users…) Hold Shift and click on restore. For Mac, you just hold the Option button instead of the Shift Button.

Then it will ask you to choose a file. Choose the file that you downloaded from the link above.

You should be restoring to 1.1.1 now.

Entering iPod in Recovery Mode (Last Resort Trick)

So… you effed your iPod up pretty bad (Like Me…) and you can’t connect iPod to your Computer…
The Last Resort Trick (what I call it) is to force your iPod into Recovery mode, to restore it. The only reasons you would wanna do this is when you can’t connect to iTunes to, ofcourse, restore…

There probably has been some problems to doing the Sleep and Home button trick… resulting in a powered off iPod. People (Me!) have tried it multiple times with no result.

Me on 11/17 had to do this…

1. Power off iPod by holding the Sleep and Home buttons, if you are not able to power off properly.

2. Dissconnect iPod from computer, if already plugged in.

3. On computer have iTunes open.

4. On iPod hold the home button, and while holding the iPod, connect the iPod to the computer. The iPod will power on bn itself, keep holding that home button!

5. The connect to iTunes picture will come up (A iPod cable pointing up at the iTunes logo)

6. Now… on iTunes, you should get a window saying something like, iTunes has detected a iPod Touch in recovery mode, please restore.

7. Once closed, you only have to click on the restorebutton to restore.

Some people may say “Dude! Everyone already knows this moron!” but people only know it as the Sleep and Home trick. Holding Sleep and Home just results in a power down.

How to Change Slide to Unlock Text W.O Customize
by ToCsIcK (MacRumors)

To change the ‘slide to unlock’ download this file:
Download: http://rapidshare.com/files/63037380…d.strings.html
right click save as.
this can also be used as a backup.

and search for “slide to unlock” replace it with anything up to 15 characters. Once that is done simply put it to /System/Libary/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/English.lproj/SpringBoard.strings.

While your in the file, you can also change
Sync in Progress
Cancel
Slide to Power Off

Custom Slider W.O Customize
by videoouija
there are various sites for these but if you want to make your own
make it 45 pixels high and however long you want it.
60 is good.
so 45×60 pixels.
once you have your slider rename it for :

Power Off Screen

Power off slider
System/Library/Frameworks/TelephonyUI.framework/bottombarknobred.png

OR

Locked Screen

Slider Bar
/System/Library/Frameworks/TelephonyUI.framework/bottombarknobgray.png

so if you wanted a new locked screen slider youd name your image bottombarknobgray.png
not capital PNG. lowecase only works.
make a copy of whatever your replacing !!!!!!
ssh and drag the picture into your /System/Library/Frameworks/TelephonyUI.framework
then make sure it replaces the other png.
if it doesnt replace
delete the origional bottombarknobgray.png and make your bottombarknobgray.png look the same.
like without the capital PNG.
hope thats not too confusing.
it worked for me

Custom Carrier Image W.O Customize
by ToCsIcK (MacRumors)

You can have your own PNG as your carrier, to do this change the carrier image at these 2 locations

/System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/FSO_CARRIER_IPOD.png
for the image on the home screen

/System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/Default_CARRIER_IPOD.png
for the image when you are in an application

The carrier png should be 20px high, and 60px wide recommended.

For the original, you can download these here:
Download: http://http://rapidshare.com/files/6…mages.zip.html

Change Icon Order

For Windows there is an application to do this, it’s called iOrder. (by RazerM) NEW VERSION AS OF 11/1
Download Here

Download the Filie, and then extract it.

You then run a program called iOrder in the folder that you just extracted. It will then ask you how many dock icons you want, 4 and 5 are Recommended.

The First (Number of dock icons chosen) are the icons on the Dock.

If you need to add more apps to the iOrder Program, you open the identifiers text, and then add the App name, and then the identifier (Look around for it)

It should come out something like this…

Quote:
AwesomeApp=Awesomeapp.com.apple

Create custom dock wallpaper

stp your ipod and go into library>summerboard>themes
there you will see all the themes you downloaded as well as “summerboard” “default” “panther” and “louis”
go up to file then make a new folder and name it “my theme”
exit out of all that then go on your ipod and set your theme to my theme and viola.
whatever your “background” is. so is your dock wallpaper!
to change your wallpaper go into your photos
find a picture you like. then set it as your background.
thats it
*note* this is the basis for making your own icons too, just further into detail.

Calendar fix

Tap into Installer.app and scroll down to ‘tweaks’ and install ‘iTouch Calendar Fix’.

OR

First of all, Download This

1. Go into your iPod with SFTP (WinSCP, CuteFTP, Cyberduck)

2. Go to Media_sym/System/Library/CoreServices/Springboard.app

3.Drag the N45AP.plist file from the download to the root of the Springboard.app File.

4.Find it, and then Double Click it.

Increasing App Size

Warning: I suggest against having this operation in effect when upgrading/jailbreaking to 1.1.2. It seems to be causing some problems. Just back up your applications data to your computer, upgrade/jailbreak, then copy it back, THEN follow these steps. These steps are still perfectly OK to do if you have 1.1.2, or 1.1.1 (and don’t intend to upgrade with the settings in effect).

Note: This guide assumes the level of familiarity with WinSCP that you would get from my previous guide.

1) Open up WinSCP and log into your iPod touch.

2) Press Ctrl+t or click Commands -> Open Terminal to… open the terminal.

3) You may get a box saying something like “Currect SFTP-3 session does not blah blah”. Just click OK, and wait for the console to open.

4) Type the following commands in, pressing enter after each. You may have to wait a few seconds after each command.

Quote:
mv /Applications /private/var/Applications
Quote:
cd /

(there is a space there. Just copy and paste these.)

Quote:
ln -s /private/var/Applications Applications
Quote:
ls -la

You should see an entry that looks something like lrwxr-xr-x 1 root admin 25 Oct 12 22:31 Applications -> /private/var/Applications. If you do, you have done this correctly.

5) Reboot your ipod (Power off and back on) and you are all set!

HOW TO MAKE A THEME

Its really simple to make a theme. All you really need to know is the dimensions of the images, and how to use Either Paint, MS Paint, or Photshop.

1.Make a folder, and rename it to the name of your Theme, for example… My Theme, Best Theme, Theme.

2.In that folder you just made, make another folder named Icons.

3.Now to make your Icons. Get any image, or just make a image with the Dimension of 60×60 or smaller, and with a file type of PNG. Then when your icon is made, name the Icon to the name of the Application it is for (For example… Safari for the Safari icon. Remember… Its caps sensitive)

4.Now for the Wallpaper. Wallpapers have the dimensions of 420(Height)x320(Width), and make sure that it is PNG format.. Once created, name it to Wallpaper.

5.You can make a Dock too, the Width is 320, and im not sure about the Length (Dont make more that 100)
6.Once done, you should something like this.

7. Now on how to put it into your iPod. Connect to your iPod using SSH.

8.Navigate to you Summerboard folder. /var/root/Library/Summerboard/Theme. Drag your Theme to your iPod.

9.Now on your iPod, go to SMBPrefs, and then Select you Theme under Themes.
10. Go back to your iPod Springboard, and then Unlock it.
11. Congrats, you just made your Theme, and just added it to your Touch.

Mod Dictionary Really Really small right now…

SSH (Secure Shell) – The connection to a device connected to the internet. You can upload and download file from the device. The thing you use to basically give files to the iPod. Good programs for this are WinSCP, Cyberduck, CuteFTP.

SMB (Summerboard) – Application for the iPhone/iPod Touch to customize App icons, and background on the Springboard.

Springboard – The main menu on the iPhone/iPod Touch

Plist Files – I have no idea what Plist stands for… but its the main thing that the iPhone/iPod Touch gets info for for Apps

Apps – Applications, LOL.

If theres anything more that needs to be added to this Dictionary, PM Zombie_Killer.

1D – Applications

Getting Customize to Work/Somewhat work…Depends…

Ok so it seems like theres still a lot of people manually editing the N45Ap.plist to achieve their perfect order of apps. Well good news Customize now does that for you in a simple layed out page. So here are the steps to get Customize to work.

1. Download and install Customize 1.13 inside Installer.app
2. Download a theme pack for Customize(must be done)
3.Download a new Hexed Customize.app by Mepman
http://rapidshare.com/files/62378869/Customize.html

4.Replace the original Customize.app with the hexed version by:
4a.Open your SFTP program. Connect.
4b.Navigate to /Applications/Customize.app
4c.Replace the customize.app file with the file you just download. (Don’t forget permission 755.)

5.Restart your ipod. Customize should be working fine now. If it is crashing follow the bellow steps.

If it crashes after the chicken pops up.

6a. Open Customize and tap on the Chicken repeatably until it crashes
Keep doing this over and over until Customize finally loads.(Took me Around 10 times to get it working) Also it Should never crash again.

Customize for iPod Touch/Installation Guide

With this (Somewhat New) Customize, you can now do anything to your iTouch!

You Will now be able to do the following!
-Edit icon order.
-Edit carrier image.
-Edit the phone keypad if you have that installer. (I wouldnt try this on 1.1.2)
-Edit the keypad artwork if you have extra keypads…they must be renamed however.(I wouldnt try on 1.1.2)

This also rids of the useless iPhone customize…things…

***I TAKE NO CREDIT FOR THIS***

Download Here

How to install, and make it work!

1.Use your favorite SSH program and connect to your iPod.

2.Go to Applications Folder (1.1.1-Media_Sym/Applcations/Library/ 1.1.2-/Applications/Library)*

3.Drag the Customize.app folder to the Applications folder.**

4.Reboot your iPod, or Go into Summerboard and Restart Springboard.

5.Ok, now start up Customize (Should start up as a Cow Farting…Lol)

6.If you Lucky, it wont close… but if it does, just keep reading.

7.Keep tapping the cow, and if it closes, just keep on doing the same thing over and over and over again. (Thats how i got mine working, takes liike 30 crashes to work….)

It should work now… Good Luck!

*Overwrite the Customize folder, if you already have one.

**All Permissions to 755!

How to make the Music and Videos into one ‘iPod.app’
by itouch101

First of all load up your FTP client and connect to your iPod Touch as normal. Navigate to /Applications/MobileMusicPlayer.app.

Download: http://newbix.net/files/renameto%20info.plist
Right click, save as.

Download the file above and upload it to the MobileMusicPlayer.app folder and rename the old one to info.old.
Now go to /Systems/Libary/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app and search for the N45AP.plist file and download it to your desktop.

Open it and search for “com.apple.mobileipod-AudioPlayer, and rename to com.apple.mobileipod-MediaPlayer.”

Now also search for:

<key>special</key>
<array>

and add the following before <dict>

<dict>
<key>displayIdentifier</key>
<string>com.apple.mobileipod-AudioPlayer</string>
</dict>
<dict>
<key>displayIdentifier</key>
<string>com.apple.mobileipod-VideoPlayer</string>
</dict>

Save the N45AP.plist and upload it back. Reboot your iPod and check to see if it works.
