Want a MacTab?

Yep you can Make your macbook into a tablet(for the price of a new macbook)

Many of us out here in Apple land have been sitting on the edge of our seats for ages waiting for Apple to release a tablet. They still haven’t. The current option is to go and pick up a Modbook (they look pretty awesome by the way).

Axitron (the makers of the Modbook) have now given us another option. If you don’t have the cash to spend on a new Modbook and have an old macbook sitting around Axitron has opened up their service to change your Macbook into a nice tablet Modbook.

Pricing isn’t cheap starting at $1,299 for just a basic conversion with no extra features. Pricing for the extras/upgrades including memory (RAM), hard disk drive, optical drive (SuperDrive), new bottom case assembly, and software isn’t clearly listed on the Modservice order form so it is difficult to tell how much money you’ll save by having your Macbook converted to a Modbook instead of ordering a Modbook. The basic Modbook starts at $2199 with a 2.1 GHz Core 2 Duo, 1 GB RAM, 120 GB Hard Drive, CDRW/DVD drive, and GPS.

The conversion service can done with most Intel® Core™ 2 Duo-based white Apple MacBooks. The new Macbooks release earlier this month can not be converted. I’d also like to know why it has to be “white.” Why not convert a black MAcbook?
